Blockchain Technology Demonstrator
We’ve been interested in the blockchain since the early 2010’s when Tom mined some bitcoin on his Dell Inspiron PC (talk about missing an opportunity).
We are really focused on consumer centricity. This is where us & the blockchain haven’t ben the best of friends.
A Solution Seeking A Problem?
We’ve found blockchain implementations to be largely clever tech – but largely irrelevant to consumers.
Hence, apart from acting as a denominator of wealth – there aren’t many day to day use cases.
It’s just a database…duh!
The bottom line is that the blockchain is just a publicly held database – where:
- Data can be trusted (i.e: not be altered once uploaded)
- Data will be available forever… (well whilst the thousands of blockchain nodes all over the world remain part of the network)
Mixing It Up
Not every part of what you build has to be on the blockchain.
Generally, most things in life are reliant on a third party – and often if the app developer no longer supports their creation, it will likely die.
But having the data available after the fact (data that is often consumer owned) is very useful if housed on the blockchain for access in the future.
What Does A Million Memories Do?
We are building an iPad app where users can upload historic images to the blockchain – specifying their location and time in history.

The above image is currently housed on a proprietary website. If the website closes, the image is lost.
A Million Memories instead stores the image, time taken, description and coordinates on the blockchain.
What’s in a proprietary app + server
iOS iPad App
- Apple Login
- Payment (to cover upload costs)
- Upload functionality
- Map display functionality
Backend Server
- User Account (there is no need for the user to have a blockchain wallet
- App / Blockchain Upload Functionality
What’s on the blockchain
On Avalanche Blockchain
- Register of uploads
- Arweave image URL
- Description
- Year
- Coordinates
- Blacklist of problematic uploaded content
On Arweave Long Term Storage Network
- Image
What happens if the app is shut down?
Anyone could build a viewer to access the data, or the data could be viewed directly via blockchain hosted block viewers.
This doesn’t have to wait until the app is shut down. A third party could elect to build say a web viewer at their leisure.
A historic organisation could implement part of the blockchain smart contract into their digital display locations – customised to only show their personal uploads.
